Social Media for Dental Clinics and Medical Practices: A Practical Guide
How clinics, dental practices and opticians can use social media to build trust: what to post, how to design it and which mistakes to avoid.

Patients choose a clinic with their eyes long before they walk in. A calm, clear and consistent social media presence tells them they will be in good hands. But healthcare is a sensitive field, so what works for a sneaker brand does not work here. These are the principles I follow on projects for Art Innova Dentalmed, Global Medical Health, Optica Tei and Dr. Kurbe Clinic.
Build trust before you sell
People are anxious about their health. Posts that explain, reassure and show the team do more than constant promotions. For Art Innova, a series of carousels explains each service in plain words, from general dentistry to implantology, so a patient knows what to expect before booking.
What to post
- Educational posts that answer real questions, such as how progressive lenses work or when to see a dentist.
- Introductions of the doctors and the team, ideally in short videos.
- Explanations of procedures and technology, simply put.
- Awareness days and seasonal greetings, which show that the clinic is human.
- Clear offers, such as a first-visit price, with exactly what is included.
Optica Tei's explainer about the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist is a good model: a question people genuinely have, answered in a few friendly slides.
Design for calm and clarity
Healthcare design should feel clean and organised. Use plenty of white space, a restrained palette and large, legible type. Art Innova's turquoise waves and Global Medical Health's white and teal system keep a clinical subject feeling approachable, without being cold.
Pick photography carefully. Stock images of overly perfect smiles often feel fake. Real photos of the clinic, the equipment and the team build more trust, and good 3D visuals or illustrations can fill the gaps.
Let the doctors talk
Short videos where a doctor explains one topic are among the most valuable things a clinic can publish. They show expertise and personality at once. With Global Medical Health, subtitled reels let doctors explain screening and early detection in simple language, which works even when the sound is off.
Be careful with claims and privacy
- Never publish patient photos or stories without written consent.
- Avoid promising results or guaranteeing outcomes.
- Check the rules of your professional body and local regulations for medical advertising.
- Make clear that online information does not replace a consultation.
A simple monthly structure for a clinic
- One educational carousel about a service.
- One short video with a doctor answering a question.
- One post introducing a person on the team.
- One seasonal or awareness-day post.
- One clear offer, with the price and what it includes.
- Stories showing the clinic, the equipment and everyday life.
This is enough to keep the account active, useful and trustworthy without overwhelming a busy team.
Keep it consistent and easy to book
Always make the next step obvious: a phone number, an address, a booking link. GMH's posts end with the clinic and hospital addresses and a phone number in the same place every time. Consistency is a sign of reliability, which is exactly what patients are looking for. If you would like a social media look for your practice, see my social media design service.
Frequently asked questions
Can a clinic show before and after photos?
Only with written consent from the patient, and within the rules of your professional body. Many clinics prefer educational content that avoids the issue.
Is Instagram or Facebook better for a medical practice?
It depends on your patients. Many clinics use both, with Facebook reaching older audiences and Instagram a younger one.
How do I handle negative comments?
Reply politely and invite the person to continue privately. Never share patient details in public.
